Rob Hedge

MSRG Student Representative

Rob Hedge is a part-time PhD student at the University of Leicester’s Centre for Regional and Local History. Funded by the Midlands4Cities Doctoral Training Partnership, his research takes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of dispersed settlements in the middle Severn Valley. Drawing on archaeological methods, documentary sources and name-studies, the project examines the patterns of rural settlement in North Worcestershire and South Shropshire between the 11th and 15th centuries, with a particular focus on the lives and experiences of the inhabitants of smaller rural settlements.

Rob has had a passion for archaeology since he began undergraduate studies in 2005. Since graduating, he has worked as a field archaeologist, public archaeologist and artefacts specialist for commercial units and local authority archaeological services. Outside of the PhD, he currently offers freelance archaeological illustration, artefact analysis, education and interpretation services. Rob is a Member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (MCIfA).
