Mark completed a PhD on the estates of Chertsey Abbey, and as a researcher for Royal Holloway and Cambridge Universities he contributed three counties to the revised Manorial Documents Register and five counties to the Records of Lay and Clerical Taxation 1188-1688 (E179 Project). After working as Collections Archivist at the Dorset History Centre he became an independent archive consultant, including acting as the archivist for Lord Shaftesbury’s estate at Wimborne St Giles and writing the history of Mere, Wiltshire, for the Victoria County History. He is the general Editor of the Dorset Record Society, local History Editor for the Proceedings of the Dorset Natural History and Archaeological Society, Dorset Editor for Somerset and Dorset Notes and Queries and is a member of the Publications Committee of the British Association for Local History.
