Elaine is an active field archaeologist with a particular interest in medieval settlements, landscapes and elite culture. After working for the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland, she joined English Heritage in 2000 and worked as an archaeological investigator for over 15 years. Between 2006 and 2010 she led the archaeological survey work for a major multi-period landscape project on the Mendip Hills and authored the monograph on this research. In 2015 she joined the University of Reading where she worked on funded research projects in both Britain and abroad while at the same time undertaking a PhD in Archaeology. Elaine joined the Department of Archaeology at the University of York as their Fieldwork Project Manager in 2022.
